Alice Barthuly, 91, of Livingston, Montana, passed away Thursday, January 5th, 2017 at Caslen Living Center.

Viewing will be Sunday, January 8th, 5-7 P.M. at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Home (118 North 3rd St.), also one hour prior to the service.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 9th, also at Franzen-Davis with Pastor Steven Paugh Leuzinger officiating.

Graveside committal and burial will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Paradise Valley. A reception will follow the graveside service at American Lutheran Church.


Alice was born on February 28, 1925, in Laurel, Montana. She was the daughter of Albert Herman and Emma Belle (Rutter) Brickman. She received her education in Laurel and was a graduate of the Laurel High School Class of 1943.

On July 17, 1943, Alice was united in marriage to Calvin Barthuly, at the American Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana. This marriage was blessed with four children, Beverly, Kathy, Carlene, Calvin “Jay”.

Alice resided in Cardwell Montana with her brother Raymond for 2 ½ years while Calvin was in the military. The couple then moved to Livingston where Calvin was employed by the Northern Pacific Railroad.

As they began their lives together, Alice cared for the children and kept the home. Once the kids were in school she began a career as a Nurses Aid working at the Pioneer Rest Home and the Memorial Hospital. She retired in the early ‘60s to the role she served so well, homemaker and grandma. Alice and Calvin shared 50 years of marriage, prior to Calvin’s passing on February 7, 1994.

Alice was a member of American Lutheran Church in Livingston where she spent much time volunteering and dedicating her time and talents to the church. Alice loved crocheting, knitting, she also enjoyed cooking, gardening and was a very talented crafter. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Alice is survived by her children, daughter, Beverly (Lee) Alt of Beaver Dam, AZ; daughter, Kathy (Harvey) Mayer of Livingston; daughter, Carlene Horsley of Alliance, NE; son, Calvin “Jay” Barthuly and his wife Joanne of Livingston. Twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. Brother, Kenny Brickman of Oregon. Nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Calvin, siblings, Erma, Alta, Ray, Roy, Charles, Vern, Albert, Fred and Ruth; son-in-law, Jack Horsley.

Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
