A woman of superior intellect, education, and culture, she was especially talented in music. In Jan. 1901 she received the honor of appointment as musical director of the Illinois State Federation of Women's Clubs, embracing over two hundred and fifty clubs in that state.
She married Sept. 3, 1888, in Alameda County, CA, the notable Prof. George Albert10 Coe, PhD LLD (Rev. George W.9, Ezra8, Jesse7, Jesse6, Capt. David5, Capt. Joseph4, Capt. John3, Robert2, Robert1), an author and professor of philosophy and religion at various universities, including the University of Southern California, Northwestern and Union Theological Seminary.
In an unprecedented act of dedication, a year after her death her husband published "Sadie Knowland Coe, A Chapter In A Life, October 9, 1864 - August 24, 1905" (1906), 108 pages. An interesting biography with history, various poetic quotes and other personal details, there is a beautiful photograph of Mrs. Coe inside the front. The book is a tribute to her and includes some family history. Family names include Coe, Knowland and Russell (her link to the DAR).
She died Aug. 24, 1905, in Evanston, IL. No children.
