Marshall V. "Muskie" Klingensmith, 82, of Vandergrift, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday (July 31, 2003) in Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell.
Born May 21, 1921, in Logansport, Bethel Township, and lived at his current Vandergrift address the past 37 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a private first class, serving with the 542nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in the Pacific Theater. He received the Purple Heart during the Phillipine Liberation Campaign.
From 1970 to his retirement in 1986, he was a research technician and federal mine inspector for the Federal Bureau of Mines in its Kittanning office. He was a die setter at the New Kensington plant of Alcoa from 1954 to 1970.
Mr. Klingensmith was a member of the Leechburg Moose, where he was secretary-treasurer for many years, Vandergrift American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, the New Kensington Eagles and a life member of the Vandergrift Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include a son, Marshall A. (Cassandra) Klingensmith of Allegheny Township; and two sisters, Betty Emanuelson of Tarentum and Doris Thompson of New York.
Also surviving are three granddaughters, Michele L., Kristin A., and Suzanna M. Klingensmith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy E. Armagost Klingensmith in 1998; a son, Robert M. Klingensmith; his parents, Archie R. and Ora Fennell Klingensmith; three brothers, Lawrence S., Frederick F. and Harold A. Klingensmith; and a sister, Virginia Jones.
Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in CLAWSON'S, Second at Main, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald W. Raptosh. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, with military services accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
