Pavilion/Houghton - Frances B. Griffen, age 91, of Luckey Drive, Houghton, passed away Friday, January 6th, 2017 at the Absolut Care of Houghton. She was born in Warsaw, December 28th, 1925, daughter of the late Lester H. and Berenice Woods Wilkie. A lifetime resident of Wyoming County, and graduate of Wyoming Central School, Frances worked as a secretary for Wyoming Central School and then the Cornell Cooperative Extension from where she retired. She was a member of East Bethany Presbyterian Church and enjoyed flower gardening. Frances was a very thoughtful woman who was very close to her husband Roy. Over the years, Frances was a foster mother to many children. She was dedicated to her family, especially her foster son who predeceased her. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Griffen; a foster son, Bob Williams; and a brother, Lester Wilkie. Survivors include a brother, Charles (Joan) Wilkie of Silver Springs; a sister-in-law, Eileen Spear of Houghton; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday, January 21st, 2017 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw with Reverend Peter Spear of the First Baptist Church of Franklinville officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Wyoming Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillside Children’s Center at www.hillside.com.
