He was born in Ganister, son of the late C.W. and Hilda V. (Sine) Deters. On November 18, 1967 he married Susan C. Knee at the South Altoona Baptist Church.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 49 years; 3 sons: William S. "Bill", Troy M. (Wendy) and Casey D. (Kara) all of Williamsburg; a daughter, Wendy A. Rettburg (Dave) of Altoona; 7 grandchildren: Mallory, Emily, Anthony (Katie), Miranda, Caitlin, Sean and Kira; 2 great-grandchildren: Noah and Olivia; his lifelong fishing, hunting and metal detecting best friend, Ed Gunnett (Nancy) of Williamsburg; 2 brothers: Raymond (Joan) and Robert (Debbie); a sister, Virginia Bucar (Steve); 3 brothers-in-law: Jerry Bronson, Joe Marvich and Jim Runyen; 2 sisters-in-law: Mimi Rodgers and Beverly Runyen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by a brother, Francis.
He was a 1963 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a U.S. Army Vietnam Combat Veteran serving from 1963-1966, attaining the rank of Sergeant E5. Following his service time he worked at U.S. Envelope, Williamsburg and then at A.D.T. Security Systems, Altoona where he was employed for over 30 years.
Dan attended the Williamsburg Alliance Church and was a member of Seven Falls Angler's Club, along Clover Creek.
Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the funeral home, Pastor Paul R. Campbell and Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiating. Private interment will be held at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the Williamsburg Ambulance Club, P.O. Box 93, Williamsburg, PA 16693.
