JOHN E. DICKE age 95
Of St. Marys, formerly of New Bremen, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 5:40 P.M. at the Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices of St. Marys. He was born on January 14, 1922 near New Bremen, the son of the late Herbert H. and Sabine S. (Doenges) Dicke. On October 27, 1945, he married LaRue H. Meckstroth, and she survives in St. Marys. Also surviving are his children Carol (Gerald) Ferguson of Shreveport, LA, and Donna (Norman) Jacoby of New Bremen, his grandchildren; Jill Ferguson, Dan (Amy) Jacoby, Jennifer (Ken) Wolters, Jodi (Doug) Schaefer, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. John was preceded in death by a son Thomas H. Dicke, and his siblings Donald Dicke, Leola Tangeman, and Robert Dicke.
John was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, where he had served as a Deacon. He was engaged in farming for most of his life, and also worked at the former STAMCO of New Bremen, and retired in 1987 from Crown Equipment Corp. of New Bremen, where he had been a machinist. In his retirement, John became a full time fisherman on Grand Lake. He enjoyed fishing as much as he could, and even supplied Sunny Side for their fish fries for many years. Together, he and LaRue enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held in the Meyer Community Room of the Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices – St. Marys on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Monday in the Meyer Community Room.
