Herbert L. Camp M.D., 76, of Midland, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born May 27, 1940 in Midland, son of the late Harper L. and Ann Agatha (Hardy) Camp. Herb attended Midland schools, graduating from Midland High School. While completing his undergraduate work at Michigan State University, he played clarinet in the MSU marching band. On June 17, 1961 he married the former Jacqueline Anne Nelson from Grand Rapids. After graduating from MSU he went on to the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1966. Herb completed his residency in Syracuse, N.Y. and then enlisted in U.S. Air Force for two years. Upon discharge, he spent one year of practice in Atlanta, Ga. before returning to Midland in 1974 as an otolaryngologist with ENT Associates.
He will be missed by his children, Jeffrey (Cristi) Camp of Lake Orion, Susan (Sean) Camp-Smith of Lexington, S.C. and Patricia Camp of Ann Arbor; sister, Mary Lee (John) Campbell of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Camp, Jessalyn L. Camp, Danielle R. Smith and Connor T. Camp-Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Jacqueline on May 19, 2011.
A service celebrating Herb's life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. The Rev. Dr. Wallace H. Mayton III will officiate, with graveside burial rites in Midland Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
