BURLEY - Lorraine Hanks was born June 2, 1928 in Burley, Idaho, the youngest of 14 children born to Austin Emanuel and Linnie May Cooper Hanks. She grew up and attended schools in the Burley area.

She married E. Jay Garrett. Together, they farmed and raised a family of seven children in the Burley area until Jay was killed in an automobile accident in 1996. She then left the farm and moved into town for a short time. She then married Carl Hogg, a childhood friend; she left Burley and lived the rest of her life in Pocatello, where she passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at the age of 88.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings. She also served for many years as a Pink Lady at the hospital. Most of her time was spent supporting her husband and working alongside him and the children on the farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all but one of her siblings; her husband, Jay Garrett; two sons: Mont J. Garrett and Michael Layne Garrett; grandsons: Shane Garrett and Levi Garrett; and two great-grandchildren: Cameron Troy Kay and Peyton Derrick.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Hogg, of Pocatello; her brother, Phillip Donald “Phil” Hanks, of Burley; sons: Gale (Nancy) Garrett, of Burley, Paul (Pam) Garrett, of St. Anthony, and Alan Garrett, of Boise; daughters: Marcia (Larry) Price, of Riverton, UT, and Julie (Blaine) Tanner, of Grouse Creek, UT; a daughter-in-law, Jan Garrett, of Taylorsville, UT; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will welcome visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at the Star LDS Church, located at 100 S. 200 W., of Burley.

Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made thru your local LDS ward or branch to the General Missionary Fund.
