Rita F. Krause: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Sun Herald, The (Biloxi, MS) - January 10, 2000
Deceased Name: Rita F. Krause
Funeral: 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville.
BILOXI --- Rita F. Krause, 57, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Pascagoula.
Rita was a lifelong resident of Biloxi. She was an honors graduate of St. Martin High School, class of 1959-60. She married Bruce Krause and remained ever faithful to him, caring for him until his death in February of 1995. She and Bruce worked hard together for parish renewal and served as Eucharistic ministers in their home parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville. They taught the Senior CCD Class with Father Louie Lohan and later Father Tran for a decade. Together, Rita and Bruce participated in Marriage Encounter for many years. Rita was a team member of the Cursillo movement of South Mississippi. She and Bruce opened and operated Charisma Christian Books and Gifts on Government Street and later on Highway 90 in Ocean Springs.
Rita was a waitress at Baricev's Seafood Restaurant for almost a decade, until it closed its doors. She then worked at the Dinner Bell Restaurant in D'Iberville until lung cancer disabled her. Rita was a waitress by vocation. There is nothing she enjoyed more than serving others, working her charm on even the most disgruntled customer or fellow employee, bringing out the goodness and happiness in others. She was a waitress by nature. She served Bruce in his sickness, fed him and ministered to him as his cancer robbed him of his ability to think clearly, to walk, to speak. Even as the cancer denied him the strength or ability to return Rita's love, she served him, ever faithful, to the end. You might say she took advantage of those she loved when she became sick with cancer. Whenever someone asked what she needed, she would tell them, "Go to church for me." She took advantage of her illness to call others back to the Lord who had called her and Bruce to himself. And now she rests in the joyful, peaceful abode of the Good God. Now she walks among the hills and trees whose fall colors never fade, whose air is always pure and clean.
She is survived by two daughters, Jan Norris of Greenwood, S.C., and Kathy Yingst of Union, S.C.; a son, David Krause of Hattiesburg; her mother, Annie Whittington; a sister, Joyce Canizaro; three brothers, Ken, Donnie and Glenn Whittington, all of Ocean Springs; ten grandchildren, Wade, Hanna, Ryan, Lyndsey, Skyler, Grant, Melissa, Torey, Bryson and Ariel; and her beloved Edgar Gable.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. today for an 11 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville. Burial will be in Bosarge Cemetery.
Rita's family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and physical therapists at Singing River Hospital for their loving care and attention.
They would also like to thank Dr. Findley Maier, family physician and friend, whose personal attention, concern and love made such hard times so much easier.
Thank you, Dr. Findley.
And a final thanks, although a thank you does no justice, to our friend, our brother, our priest, Father Gerard Cleary.
