ALBANY - Walter Michael Foley, an Albany jeweler for more than 40 years, died Wednesday at the Bridge Creek Specialized Care Facility in Lebanon. He was 75.

He was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Patrick and Jennie (Martin) Foley and moved to Albany at a young age. After high school, he joined the Navy in 1944, served in the Pacific during the Second World War and was discharged in 1946.

He attended watchmaker's college in Denver. In 1948 he returned to Albany and opened Foley's Jewelers, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1989.

At one time he restored the Linn County Courthouse clock. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying. He also collected antique motors.
Mr. Foley was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Albany Elks Lodge. He was a retired captain of the Linn County Sheriff's Posse.

Family survivors include his children, Roger Foley and Cathleen Davis, both of Galveston, Texas, and Sharon Hardt of Chiloquin; his brother Eugene Foley of Albany; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His brother Thomas Foley and sister Mae Mydler died before him.

No local services will be held. A memorial service will be held in Galveston.
