Fred was a district manager for Petrolane Gas Company in Noble and Flora. Fred was a US Navy veteran who served in the Korean War. Fred was an avid Cardinals fan who loved to hunt, fish, and trap. He was a talented wood craftsman who specialized in clocks. Fred was an avid reader who enjoyed Western's and cowboy books. He took pleasure in talking with people and was a friendly and sociable person. Fred was much loved by all those that knew him.
Fred is survived by his son, Michael Long of Danville, IL; daughter, Teresa (Matt) Young of O'Fallon, IL; son, Jeffrey (Jill) Long of Newton, IL; grandchildren, Chris, Zack, Jessica and Jenalee Long; Tom and Maggie Young; great grandchildren, Jacob and Lucy Young, and Jaelynn Taylor; brother, Donnie Long; sisters, Sandie (Roy) Burke and Carolyn McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Freida Ring, and great grandson, Sammy Young.
