Harry, like both of his parents, was born in Dallas County, Iowa. Shortly after his two younger sisters were born there also, the family moved to Saskatchewan, Canada about 1906. They stayed for only a couple of years before returning to the United States and locating in Creston, Union County, Iowa about 1908 or 09. There Harry died of scarlet fever at the age of 10. This loss of their only son must have been traumatic to his parents (John Eldon McKinley and Mary Louise Murray McKinley) as they moved again shortly thereafter. This time they moved to Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa where John's older brother Charles Melvin McKinley lived. Harry's parents and his uncle Franklin Charles McKinley (youngest of the three McKinley children of Charles Franklin McKinley and Harriet N. Cooper) and his youngest sister (Edith Helen McKinley Buck) are buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs. His elder uncle, Charles, is buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs. His other younger sister (Orrel Irene McKinley Williams) died in Lehigh Acres and is buried in nearby Ft. Myers, Union County, Florida. In the photo, Harry is the boy at center. From left are Edith, Mary, Harry, John and Orrel. Photo taken about 1908.
