John was born in Ontario, Canada, the son of William Worthy and Jane (Moore). He married Mary LaBonte in 1865. Together they had eleven children who are Elizabeth b.1871, Carrie, John, Charles, Joseph b.1973, Frank (died young), Alex b.1874, Alfred b.1879, Fred, Rose (James) Nugent, and Alvina. He was a shoemaker, ang they lived in Ira Township, Michigan, from 1867 until the 1890s, when they moved to Wheatly, Ontario. In 1912, the year Mary died, they moved to Algonac, Michigan. She died on August 7, 1912. John died on May 7, 1928 from influenza in Algonac, Michigan.
