He was a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He entered and completed Officer Candidate School, serving eight years of active duty. He left the US Coast Guard as Lt. Commander in 1980. He commanded the entire Caribbean Fleet by the end of his active duty. One ship he served aboard was the USS Morgenthau. Currently, he was employed by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Randall of Durham; three sons, Patrick Randall of North Bethesda, Maryland, Craig Randall of Durham and Ryan Randall of Durham; one sister, Judith Whitney of Belfast, Maine; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Randall.
