Darrell Wayne Burris, 70, of Alexander, NC passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016.

He was born in Nowata, OK to the late Roy and Effie Mae Sickler Burris. Darrell graduated from High School in Coffeyville, Kansas and served in the US Air Force in Vietnam. He was a Firefighter and EMT for over 40 years, serving in West Buncombe, Leicester and French Broad and on the CISD Team and FIST. Darrel also taught at AB-Tech. He loved racing and ran his car at Greenville Pickens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Rick, Debbie and Nadine Burris.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruddle Burris; children, Stephanie (Bill) Neal, Laura and Melissa Burris; grandchildren, Savannah and Emily Neal; and siblings, Barbara (Johnny) Anders, Sharon Dancer, Ronnie (Terri) Burris and Michael (Lynn) Burris.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28th from 6-8PM at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, December 29th in the Chapel at the Western NC State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain with Rev. Garry Rogers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses. Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn is assisting the family. Please visit www.moorefh.net to sign the online guest book.
