Loweta Evelyn “Weedie” Borchardt passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in a local nursing home. She was 88. Born July 10, 1928 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, Loweta was the daughter of Henry and Martha Smith Bays.

She was raised and educated in her birth community where she was a member of the 1946 graduating class. Throughout her youth, Loweta was involved in 4-H activities. She was also band queen and was a member of the cheerleading squad.

On April 8, 1946, Loweta married Fred Borchardt. The young couple made their first home in Miami, Oklahoma. They later moved to Tulsa where Fred was a firefighter. Eventually, Claremore became home for the Borchardt’s where they had the opportunity to raise cattle and horses on their ranch. This was a true blessing for Loweta, a natural born cowgirl. It was on their land that she loved to organize and host team roping events. There was never a doubt who was in charge at one of these occasions and Loweta even earned a nickname for her ‘lead role’. This as all of her roping family began to refer to her as “Serg” or Sergeant.

In addition to ranching, Loweta or “Weedie” was very active in the political scene. She was a true patriot who dressed in red, white and blue religiously. She prided herself in her involvement with the Democratic Party, as well as, her contributions to the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

A woman of strong stamina, Weedie took it upon herself to walk at least two miles per day to keep her legs going strong. This was a consistent effort until a recent setback and fall.

Loweta was a strong supporter of her family, attending all of the extra-curricular activities her children and grandchildren participated in through the years and she will certainly be missed by those family members that she leaves behind, however, there will be a great team roping event in Heaven tonight as she joins those who have gone on before her.

She is survived by her daughter, Marty Steidley and a son, Brad Borchardt, three grandchildren Todd Steidley and wife, Kelli of Edmond, Marcie Gaudette and Amanda Borchardt, both of Claremore, three great-grandchildren Erin Steidley Delk and husband, Greg, Garrett Steidley, all of Edmond and Marlie Gaudette of Claremore. She is also survived by a great-great-grandson, Louden Delk along with a niece, Margaret Harrison of Florida, a nephew, Charles Borchardt of Norman and numerous cousins.

Loweta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Borchardt and a sister, Virginia Teague.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the Chapel at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Services under the direction of Rice Funeral Service & Cremation Care, Claremore, Oklahoma.
