Rolla grew up being quite musical. He became accomplished with both the violin and fiddle. Being an only child "Rollie" as he was nicknamed was quite doted upon by his parents and to some degree by both sets of his grandparents. His father's parents lived into Rolla's twenties.
By his mid-twenties Rolla was still unattached and single. The woman his mother "picked out" for him to marry was not a turn-on for him. That woman actually ended up an old maid. The gal he was smitten with Trudie Ebersole was a teacher at the Arcadia School. She had gone to college at Ohio Northern and came from a prosperous family near Arcadia. Her father Austin Ebersole was a co-founder of the Arcadia Bank. Rolla married her at the Ebersole home on April 12, 1899. Nine months later on January 15, 1900 they had their first child, daughter Pearl. Two more children would follow, a daughter Olive Corrine (b. 1904) and a son Luther "L. J." Creighton (b. 1907).
Rolla worked on and eventually took over his father James Creighton's farm which he later inherited, in 1926, following the passages of both of his parents that same year. He did not have the same successes nor the business acumen of his father or his two grandfathers. Ill health started to plague him before he turned 60. No accurate diagnosis was ever given. He was afflicted by some sort of auto-immune disorder which may have possibly been a form of A.L.S. He died at age 65 being far younger than both of his parents at death, by twenty years less than his father, and younger than all four of his grandparents when they died.
