Gerald “Jerry” Roger Kortman, age 78, went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 after a brief illness.

Jerry was born on December 2, 1938 to Joe and Rena Kortman and grew up in McBain, MI as the 7th of 8 children. He graduated from Northern Michigan Christian High School. He began his career as a brick mason. In 1977 he opened Jerry’s Double Check gas station which eventually was expanded to become Jerry’s Country Inn Restaurant. He retired in 1999 and spent winters in Bradenton, FL.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Ten Broeke); his children, Karen (Gary) Meyer, Karmen (Jerry) DeYoung, Todd (Judi) Kortman, Tim (Deb) Kortman, Steve (Barb) Tanis, Robert (Suzanne) Tanis; his 16 grandchildren; his 18 great grandchildren; his sisters, Joan Koetje, Julia (Rob) Koster; his brother and sisters-in-law, Nella Kortman, Harv (Carol) Ten Broeke, Shirley Borgman, Judy Molengraf, Ruth (Ron) Davis; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 11:00 A.M. at Ivanrest Christian Reformed Church, 3777 Ivanrest SW Grandville, MI 49418. Interment Georgetown Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at VanderLaan Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.
