Ruth V. Blackard, 95, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Jeffersonville to Albert and Bertha Hoffman. She married Dean Blackard, and he preceded her in death on September 25, 1999.

Ruth retired from Owens-Illinois in Gas City after working there for several years. While she was able, Ruth was actively involved in her church at First United Methodist Church in Gas City, where she was a member, as well as a member of the UMC Women.

She and her husband enjoyed golfing together in her earlier years, in addition to playing Euchre and traveling to her home in Florida. In her later years, Ruth enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially golf, listening to books on tape, and spending time with her friends.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, friends from Colonial Oaks Health and Rehab, and special friend and caregiver, Tonya (Mark) Fode.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, and son, Ron Blackard.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Grant Memorial Park Chapel, 1606 W. 26th St., Marion, IN, with Pastor Jeff Herron officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City.
