Royce Gayle "Papa Gayle" McKenzie, 82, Altus, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Plantation Village Nursing Home. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2016 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Gayle McKenzie was born on October 24, 1934 in Altus, Oklahoma to Aubrey M. and Jackie (Burleson) McKenzie. He graduated from Altus High School in 1952 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He married Marilynn Mitchell on April 29, 1960 in Altus, Oklahoma. To this union, three children were born. Gayle was born into a family of custom harvesters and continued in the business for 50 years. In 1990, he began working for Windy Trails Golf Course at Altus Air Force Base. He worked for 20 years in civil service and retired in 2010. He enjoyed fishing, boxing, football and old western movies. Gayle was an avid reader of western novels and loved old country music. He was an accomplished cook, especially barbecue ribs and baked ham. He also enjoyed his huge garden and was sharp at cards.

His parents and a brother, Charles McKenzie, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelly Jones and husband, Robbie; two sons, Mitchell McKenzie and wife, Michelle, and Matthew McKenzie; three grandchildren, Chase Duncan and wife, Vanessa, Mabree McKenzie and Madison McKenzie; a great granddaughter, Lily Duncan; his beloved friend, Freckles; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Days Inn to the South and Western Sizzlin' to the North.
