Lawrence Douglas Abel left this world to be with the Lord December 18, 2016. Born May 18, 1918 the second youngest of seven children of the late Norma and Frank Abel in Hickory Withe, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Joyce Lorraine Dixon Abel, and six siblings. He is survived by seven children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one greatgreat grandchild.

Larry served in the US Air Force 24 years. He served with the 11th fighter squadron during WWII and the Korean War. He had several tours and TDY in Europe and the US until his retirement in 1967. As a resident of Cobb County he was active in community service through memberships in the American Legion, VFW and Kiwanis Club. He played several musical instruments including the harmonica, autoharp, accordion, piano and guitar. As a member of St. Stephens Methodist Church he sang with the choir and played the harmonica with the Guys and Dolls. He won many medals in the Cobb County Senior Citizens Olympics.

Pastor Moffatt officiated a graveside service at Mountain View Park Cemetery. Family and Friends attended a celebration memorial service at St. Stephens Methodist Church.
