June 27, 1932 - December 16, 2016 Mr. Donald Irwin Empfield, Sr., passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Doyle and Mable Walker Empfield, infant son, James Doyle and two sisters.
Mr. Empfield served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was employed as a mechanical designer with Union Carbide for many years. Mr. Empfield was a charter member of the Mobile Roadrunners Camping Club, and was one of the founders of the Dixie Youth Baseball in Mobile County and served as State Director. We also served as the State Director for the Good Sam International.
Mr. Empfield is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn Graydon Empfield, children; Donald Irwin Empfield, Jr. (Rhonda), David Lee Empfield, and Carol Dawn Barlow (Hugh). He is also survived by two brothers, Edward Empfield (Nancy), Darhl Empfield (Nylene), seven grandchildren; Nicole Murphy (Scott), Natalie Holladay (Ben), David Empfield, Jr. (Megan), Daniel Empfield, Kristen Empfield, DPT, Nicholas Barlow, Caroline Barlow and three great-grandchildren; Hannah, Christian and Nathan. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Kindred Hospice and First Light Home Care for the loving care given Mr. Empfeild during his illness.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, AL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
