Margaret S. Bowen, 78 of Washington NJ, passed away peacefully Saturday December 17th 2016 in St. Lukes Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg NJ. Margaret, more commonly known as Peggy, was born in Washington PA on January 8, 1938, to the late Ralph Stanley and Hazel Fife.

Peggy taught English at Warren Hills Regional High School from 1967 until she retired in 1996. She was a proud graduate of West Virginia University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude; she received her Master's Degree in English from the former Trenton State College, now the College of New Jersey in Trenton NJ. During her tenure as a teacher, Peggy was active within the school, serving as the English Department Chairperson for over ten years and as the advisor for the Yearbook for over ten years. She directed the first production of "The Music Man" and was responsible for doing make up for other productions. She participated in the Exchange Student program and served as a host when needed. She was also awarded the President's "Teacher of the Year" award, recognizing her excellence as a teacher, which her many students already knew.

She served her community by teaching Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church of Washington NJ, and by participating in the Girl Scouts as a Brownie leader. Peggy enjoyed reading and was a fan of Tokien's Lord of the Rings trilogy long before it became popular through the movies, which she loved. She also loved history, traveling, and gardening.

Her greatest love was her husband Alfred. They were married over 57 years and together for 61. She is also survived by her two daughters, Barbara Finney and her husband Angus of Troy MI, and Patricia Quelch and husband John-Robin of Millstone Twp NJ, a sister Marcia Klass of Florida, and her grandchildren Robert, Duncan, Rhiannon and Gwyneth.

Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday December 21, 2016 in the DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM in the funeral home. The interment will be in the Montana Cemetery in Harmony Twp. NJ.
