Walter Frank "Bud" Ambrose, 82, a resident of Wickersham, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Sedro-Woolley. He was born on May 23, 1926 in Sedro-Woolley, graduated from Mt. Baker High School, attended Washington State University and was a life-long resident of Whatcom County, except for his military service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Charlene Caul of Abbotsford, B.C. in 1951 and they made their home in Wickersham where they raised three children. Bud worked in the logging industry and operated a family farm until he sustained an injury while logging in 1964 which left him a paraplegic. Even though paralyzed, Bud was very active in the community and in helping to raise his children and grandchildren. If a child or grandchild was performing in a music or sporting event, you'd usually spot Bud in the audience or on the sidelines.
Bud was a member of the American Legion and a long-time Saxon Cemetery District Commissioner. He loved to hunt and fish, and was also quick to offer help to his neighbors and friends.
Bud is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughter, Denice (Joe) Hougen; sons Darrell (Trish) Ambrose and Craige (Darla Wagner) Ambrose. Grandchildren, Jacob, Stephanie, Alexander, Eric and Hailey Ambrose; step-grandson, Austen Wagner; great-grandson, Riley Ambrose; brother, Lawrence (Joyce) Ambrose; brother-in-law, Al Stromme and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Urban Ambrose and Bessie (Bever) Ambrose Stewart; step-father, Cliff Stewart; sister, Alma Gene Stromme; parents-in-law, Bob and Florence (Rogers) Caul and sister-in-law, Virginia (Caul) Veerkamp.
Private inurnment will be at the Saxon Cemetery on Saturday, Sept 6, 2008, followed by an informal time of remembrance for family and friends to share good food and good stories on Sunday, Sept 7, 2008 at the Acme Presbyterian Church from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Acme Fire Dept (P.O. Box 37 Acme WA 98220), or Acme Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
