Specialist Four Wyman Gene Britt was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Britt served our country until August 4th, 1969 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Wyman died by friendly fire. His body was recovered. SP4 Britt is on panel 20W, line 094 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. LUMBERTON - SP4 Wyman Britt, 19, died in Vietnam August 4. He is survived by his mother, Mrs Calvin Britt of Route 2, Fairmont; eight brothers, J.C. Britt of Fairmont, Elton, Deleon of Lumberton, Ed and Dan Britt of Greensboro, Melton and Leighton Britt, Ken Britt of Route 2, Fairmont; two sisters, Miss Linda Britt of the home and Mrs Mary Frances McCloskey of Greensboro; maternal grandfather, Ed Graham of Route 2 Fairmont.
He is the Son of Mr Calvin Britt and Mrs Gertrude Gray Britt, of Robeson County, NC.
Wyman grew up on a farm with 9 brothers and 2 sisters. His father was a big fox hunter, and taught his sons his passion. Instead of foxes,Wyman loved to "coon" hunt.He had his own Walker dogs for it.-Melton
He served with Bravo troop, 3rd Squadron, 4th Armored Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
