Rhoda Hurst, daughter of John and Elizabeth was born in Virginia during the 1790s (1850 census states 1805). She married Henry Poe and resided in Claiborne County, in the year 1830. They later moved to Putnam County, Indiana where they remained for some time and afterward migrated west (Van Buren County Arkansas). Their children were Elijah, Preston and Thursa A. Poe. 1850 census added Nancy Caroline and Cynthia Ann Poe as children.
Both were born around 1800, Rhoda in Virginia and Henry in Tennessee. On the 1850 and 1860 census they are in Van Buren County, Arkansas with children Preston, Nancy and Synthia.Another child Elijah was in Tennessee with his family.Have not located on 1870 census. Rootsweb showed they had another child Thursa A. Poe.

John was drafted from Shenandoah Valley for services in the Colonial Army in May, 1781. His officers were Col. Michael Radar and Capt. George Prince. His son, Henry, served this term of three months for him but John received a discharge for his service. He also served one three months term for his son Henry, who was sick when called and could not answer. He is reported to have served one or more additional terms. Killed by a falling tree.
