Dr. Milton A. Owens, 71, of Abingdon, died Sunday, January 5, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Dickinson County and had lived in Abingdon for the past forty years where he had a private denistry practice. He was a member of the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon. He completed his undergraduate studies at Emory & Henry College and later attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Dade where he performed in a Bluegrass Band.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Mullins Owens; two sons, Dr. Gregory Owens, Abingdon, Michael Owens, Abingdon; one daughter, Sandra Smeltzer, Salem; two brothers, Francis Owens, Birch Leaf, Buford Owens, Wayne, Mich.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Dr. Milton A. Owens will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church with Elder Larry Blevins and the Rev. Robert R. Tolar Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. Pallbearers will be Jim Hill, Dr. Keith Speer, Dr. Gene Rorrer, Park Owens, Ron Owens, Johnny Goodwin, Cornett Rasnake, and Leroy Skeens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Farris Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Farris Funeral Home, Abingdon.
