He was born September 17, 1938 in Glenville, WV, the son of the late William and Hallie Cox Shuman.
Bill was an US Navy Diving Veteran, and Diver for The Army Corps of Enigineers. He was retired from and founding member of the Local Painters Union #1144, District Council #53. He was a member of the Vienna Masonic Lodge #172, a Shriner, a member of the Ben Bay Grotto, and a founding member of the Freedom Gate Church in Marietta. In his early years, Bill was a stock car driver, entrepreneur, and helped create and fund The Old Man River Mission. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by four children, Kaye L. Spiker (Rick) of Marietta, Ohio, Gale Posey (Bob) of Vienna, WV, Rod Shuman (Vickie) of Vienna, and Sheila Nolan (Joe) of Roanoke, VA; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary K. Emrick Shuman who passed away August 31, 2016; two grandsons; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna with Pastor Rodney Lord officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full Military Rites by the American Legion Post 15 and full Masonic Rites by Lodge #172.
