Isaac Tennison owned land in Woodleaf, North Carolina (Outside Saulsbury). Old house was the old post office. Isaac, Rebecca and their children and Suzanne's children, along with a young bachelor named Thomas Breedlove were on their way to settle in Texas from Salsbury, Rowan County, North Carolina, when they were stranded in a snow storm in Mississippi.

The area is now called Burton, Mississippi). He apparently pitched his tent and decided to call that Texas.

He is buried on "On Road" before Forked Oaks Church in Burton, Mississippi. Buried in field on Gerald Tennyson's farm His and Rebecca graves were destroyed by house construction.

August 22, 1836 - Isaac Tennison bought land from John Boston on Fourth Creek, 160 acres. A witness to the deed was George Baker, a brother-in-law. (Rowan Co., NC DB 22:274, Rec. May 1837)

February 23, 1842 - Isaac Tennison sold Robert G. Wilson a tract of land on waters of Little Beaver Dam which emptied into south fork of Yadkin River and on both sides of Wilkes Road, 116 1/2 acres. Isaac Tennison sold Silas Phifer 160 acres on north side of Fourth Creek. (DB 36 pp 372-373, Reg. May 1843)

The family emigrated to Tishomingo Co., MS from Rowan Co., NC before 1845 because they appear on the 1845 State census, p. 11, Col. 2, with reading of 3 males and 3 females in the household.

May 23, 1855 - Isaac Tennison bought 80 acres from Franklin and Emiline Owens in Tishomingo Co., MS. (DB 5 p.103)
