Obituary - source unknown (Charles died 30 April, 1920)

Charles W. Hewitt was born in Montgomery County, Ohio (near Dayton) on Jan. 28, 1845. He was converted and united with the church when a young man. On April 24, 1862, he was united in marriage to Sarah E. Brewer, who died April 1, 1886, To this union were born nine children, four of whom survive their parents.

Mr. Hewitt came to Kansas in September 2, 1872, and settled on a farm 5 miles north of Erie where he spent most of his life.

On June 2, 1888, he was united in marriage to Martha Grace who died April 19, 1895. To this union were born three children, two of whom survive the parents.

On March 2, 1896, he was united in marriage to Susie Tindall who died Nov. 7, 1898. To this union were born one child who died in infancy.

On Jan. 28, 1900 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah Johnson who survives him. To this union were born two children, one of whom survives him.

On April 30, 1920, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 3 days, he passed out of the trials, troubles , hardships and heartaches of life in a sin-cursed world, to the glorious life of eternity. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Fairview class of the United Brethren, but he was, above everything else, a Christian. He did not worship a sect or a creed, but a living Christ. He was never happier than when engaged in some kind of Christian service.

Last year he was superintendant of the Mt. Pleasant M.E. Sunday School and was a mighty power for good in the community and we will miss his helpful and unselfish influence.

We all mourn our loss of him, but our hearts have great reason for rejoicing in the knowledge that there remaineth, therefore a rest for the people of God, and he has entered into that rest where pain or sorrow is known no more and where his is the light of an eternal and glorious day.
