Survivors; wife, Ida Belle; son, Randy Gassman of Abilene, 3 daughters, Lynette Fry, Denise Grau, Tracy Gassman all of Topeka. & 7 brothers and sisters including Robert Gassman of Scranton, Ks.; and Julius Gassman of Manhattan. 6 grand-children; 2 step-grandchildren and 1 step great Grandchild.
Funeral services were held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton.

Dighton -- Severin J. Gassman, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Lane County Hospital, Dighton. Randy Gassman of Abilene is a son. He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Ness City, the son of Vincent and Dorothy (Sauer) Gassman.

He graduated from Ness City High School. He served in the United States Army.

He married Ida Belle Rohr on Oct. 3, 1960, in Ness City.

Mr. Gassman worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation (K.D.O.T.), Ness City. In 1961, he was transferred to Dighton, where he served as an engineering technician for K.D.O.T. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dighton, third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 3210 and American Legion Post No. 190.

Other survivors include his wife, Ida Belle Gassman of the home; three daughters, Lynette Fry, Denise Grau and Tracy Gassman, all of Topeka; two brothers, Robert Gassman of Scranton and Julius Gassman of Manhattan; five sisters, Florence Mitchell and Virginia Lynch, both of Redlands, Calif., Josephine Cooper of North Platte, Neb., Agnes Marie Smith of St. John and Louise Leta Mele of Struthers, Ohio; six grandchildren; two-step grandchildren; and one step- great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Gassman, Richard Gassman and Ralph Gassman; and three sisters, Lucille Pfeifer, Ubertina Macy and Eleanor Evans.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ness City. Military honors will be given by American Legion Post No. 190. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, at Boomhower Funeral Home, 145 N. Wichita, Dighton. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church or Lane County Country Club and sent in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, P.O. Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.
