NAHUNTA ¬ David "Junior" Knox, 76, of Nahunta, died early Monday morning (Oct. 11, 2004) at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick following a lengthy illness. A native of Brantley County, he was the son of Elwood and Nell Rowell Knox. A son, Gerald Knox; two grandsons, Josh Knox and Christopher Carl Horne; a brother, Harry Knox and four sisters, Evelyn Harris, Lizzie Williams, Nora Bell Ham and Ruby Williams, also preceded him in death. He retired from law enforcement after serving 10 years with the City of Nahunta, also 17 years as a Brantley County Deputy and eight years on the Brantley County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of Lulaton Baptist Church and a past member of The Police Officers Association. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gertrude "Gertie" Morgan Knox of Nahunta; 14 children, David "Larry" Knox and Wayne Knox (Gail), both of St. Simons Island; Donald E. Knox (Ann) and Gary "Gene" Knox (Diane), both of Nahunta; Ricky Knox (Trixie) of Douglas; Earl D. Knox of Kingsland; Joe Knox (Melinda) of Nahunta; Troy Lannis Maddox of Callahan, Fla.; Nelda Knox (Robert) and Ann Horne (Dennis) both of Kingsland; Trish Trouille (Alton) of Hilliard, Fla.; Dell Canaday (Steve) of St. George; Brenda Johns (Randy) of Hickox, and Sabrina Strickland (Ricky) of Nahunta; 34 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held tonight starting at 6 at the Funeral Home. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lulaton Baptist Church with the Rev. Monroe Gill and the Rev. Ricky Knox officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be William "Bogie" Kyser, G.W. Knox, Tim Burkhead, Terry Jacobs, Leland Myers, Harry Edgy, Joe Lake, Phillip Rowell, Robert Thomas, Harry Riggins, Jimmy Ham, Bozo Willis, Buddy Harris, Ronnie Jacobs, Robert Moore, Marvin Peeples, Dr. Grubb and Dr. Wade Strickland. Honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Scotty Strickland, Ben Knox, Gary Knox, Timmy Knox, Carl Horne, Mitchell Maddox, Eric Johns, Will Johns, David Knox Jr., Jason Knox, Gary Elwood Knox, Mike Trouille, Chae Pohoreskey, Jeremey Davis, Justin Hardin, Josh Simpson, Jamie Simpson and Trey Simpson.
