Jacob Gantner, 76, of 518 West C Street, a retired employee of the Carling Brewing Company, died at 10:20 a.m. this morning at his home following an extended illness.
A son of the late Anton and Magdalena, nee Kern, Gantner, he was born in Belleville July 1, 1886.
Surviving are two daughters, Mildred, wife of E.A. Daesch, painting contractor of 728 State Street, and Mrs. Evelyn Engler, 306 North First Street, a son Charles Gantner, 2005 Muren Boulevard; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The Army Reserve Armory here was named in honor of his son, Raymond, who was killed in action in World War II. Mr. Gantner also was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Pate Gaerdner Funeral Home to Walnut Hill Cemetery. James Torn, student assistant pastor of Christ United Church of Christ, will officiate. Friends may call at eh funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday.
