Matthew J. Bishop

Matt's was a life well lived: "with every broken bone, I swear, [he] lived." Picture a man with an enormous smile, racing down a mountain with the wind in his crew cut, enjoying the excitement of something he loved, and you'll have a picture of our beloved husband, brother, and friend. Matthew J Bishop was born on July 16, 1969, in Bountiful, Utah, and passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, in Salt Lake City surrounded by his loving family.

Matt was full of surprises-always full of laughter and life, and always had the biggest smile in the room. He had a great love of cycling and European motorcycles, all things fast, and everything adventurous. He firmly believed that flame decals make you go faster. Above all, he adored his loving wife, Lauren, and his six beautiful children.

He was a patriot, firefighter, U.S. Marine and Gulf War veteran, artist, avid athlete, and baker. He was generous, made everyone around him feel like his best friend, and would do anything for his kids. He served a full-time LDS mission in the Philippines where he gained a dedication to serving others of all faiths. Even as he suffered with terminal cancer, his motto was "Go big or go home!" His positive outlook and encouragement for others was a refreshing contrast to a world full of despair and depression. This was evidenced by his sense of humor-his last post on Facebook read: "After I get through this cancer thing, I am totally going to get a jet pack!" He embodies the phrase, "You can't kill a Marine," because his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of his friends and family.

Matt is survived in this life by his wife and BFF, Lauren Comstock Bishop, children Naomi (21), Matthew-Thai (18), Reilly (17), Racer (10), Jet (9), and Zoë (5); father Neal and siblings Mark (Anita), Micalyn Yocham, Jon (Kerri), Joseph, and Benjamin (Silvana), and countless friends, colleagues, and loved ones. He was welcomed on the other side by his mother, Dixee, who preceded him in death.
