Last rites for L. C. Mckelvy, 73 prominent ranchman and resident of
Shackelford county since 1892, were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 3.
Rev. D.D.Dension, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated, assisted by Rev. J. a. Owen, pastor of the Presbyterian churchm and jRev. H.M. Weldon of the First Baptist church. Burial was made in the Albany cemetery.
Nr. McKelvy, who died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday of last week, had been in ill health for the past year and had been critically ill for the past three months. he was born on a plantation in Lawrence county, Alabama, January 7, 1869 and on January 10,1889 was married to Fannie Byars. Four years later he moved to Shackelford county and engaged in the ranching business as foreman of the W.I. Cook ranch for 21 years. He moved to
Albany and purchased a ranch and later leased the Eli Meyer ranch 4 miles west of town,where he has resided since 1926.
A Member of the Methodist church since 1906, he was also a charter member of the Stamford Cowboy Reunion association. He served two terms as county commissioner of Precinct No.1.
Mr. McKelvy was a staunch democrat, and was a true friend. it was said of him "None knew him but loved him, or named him but to praise.
Two sons were unable to be here for the service. Sgt Mckelvy, who had been here with his father several days, returned to his duties in Columbia Air Base Tuesday before his fathers death.
