She was born October 19, 1937, at Hope Cottage, in Dallas, Texas. Greta was adopted from Hope Cottage Pregnancy and Adoption Center, by her parents William Vernon and Ona Chick Wright, who preceded her in death. Raised in Dallas, Greta attended Hockaday School, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, modeled for Neiman Marcus and attended Southern Methodist University. A beautiful and vivacious woman, Greta was the epitome of class and style with a heart of gold. With a love for people and a friend of many, Greta was full of life and fun to be with in her daily activities. Together, she and Jack, her husband of 33 years, who has survived her, built a business and enjoyed the fruits of their success, as they were active in oil marketing, publishing and investments. With friends, they enjoyed traveling and spending time at their 2nd home at The Wilderness Country Club in Naples, Florida and later their place at Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado. They also enjoyed experiencing the Kentucky Derby, the Great Wall of China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indianapolis 500, football bowl games: Hula, Cotton and Rose Bowl Games and Parade, Super Bowl, World Series, Final Fours and many great golf outings with friends. While active in business in Houston, they belonged to the Houston Club; Houston Petroleum Club; and Champions Golf Club. Having no children, Greta and Jack have just completed (2006) establishing The Jack E. & Greta W. Stalsby Charitable Foundation for the purpose of providing three full college scholarships (3 at present and more over time) at the University of Houston and Hillsdale College for deserving young people and funds for the continued maintenance of Hope Cottage. This was Greta's way of "giving back" for the many blessings and opportunities provided to her. Greta and Jack worked in Houston and retired to Riverhill Country Club, Kerrville, in 1993, and subsequently to San Antonio in 1996, to be closer to medical facilities. The Stalsby's were members of The Argyle Clubs, Club Giraud, Oak Hills Country Club and The Dominion Country Club.
