The Hon.Frederick Washington Cook was born Feb 1 1831 in Washington D.C. the son of an immigrant German baker.

He started out a poor man instead of school he went to work and saved $135.00 to start his own brewery with his uncle Louis Rice.

He came to Evansville IN 1836
Along with his stepfather Jacob Rice and step uncle Louis Rice they continued in the brewery buisness the first in Evansville,
It was later known as F. W. Cook's brewery,

By 1888 his estimated worth was over 250 thousand dollars and his brewery employed 110 employess producing over 75 thousand barrels of pillsner beer.

Mr Cook was elected 5th ward councilman in 1856 until 1864 when he was elected to Reprensentative to Indiana Legislature from Vanderburgh County.

Mr Cook married in 1856 to Louisa Hild of Louisville KY
and were the parents to Emma Lillie,Jacob T,Phillip A,Henry E, Fred W Jr,Charles,Ada, Arthur,Albert and Helen Cook.

His sons continued operating the brewery after his death in 1913
