From the Times, Shreveport, Louisiana, September 29, 1899, p. 1:

ONE NEW CASE
Jackson, Miss., Sept. 28.—One new case of yellow fever and two deaths make up the record for to-day in the yellow fever situation here. The new case was that of a negro hack driver, Geo. Reed, who lived on West Pearl street, and who died shortly after being reported. The other death was that of Mrs. Jacob Kausler, on North President street. The total of cases to date including those which were not officially turned in to the board of health, is 11 cases and of these 3 have died. . . . The weather has moderated considerably, and it is now feared that a general epidemic of fever will result. Business is becoming completely paralyzed.
