In 1975 she married William Stack; they were together until his death in 2009.An ardent reader, Billie spent her working life in libraries, first as a volunteer at Grant Elementary school where she helped to convert an unused room into a school library, then as an employee of San Diego Unified training volunteers and organizing school libraries. She left the school district to work at the San Diego County Office of Education as a library technician and cataloger.For many years, on nights and weekends, Billie worked as a librarian at the Downtown public library in various departments.
