OBITUARY:
Ernest Albert Baker, 83, of Pasco, formally of Eltopia, passed away on May 1, 2007. Ernest was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 28, 1924 to Jesse Simon and Zina Ruthinda Hill Baker and raised in Mendon, Utah.

As a young man he excelled in sports and played in semi-pro fast pitch softball.

When WWII broke out he and members of his family moved to the San Francisco area and worked in the shipyards. Ernie became a Journeyman welder at that time.

While there he met Ida Muriel Dorius and a great love was formed. They married on April 23, 1943 in the Logan Utah Temple.

Thereafter Ernie was drafted and served a tour of duty in the Philippines and Japan.

After the war he relocated to Provo, Utah and attended BYU. When the farmland of the basin was opened for development, he applied and received a farming parcel west of Eltopia that he developed.

He later gained employment with the Bureau of Reclamation, working for many years on the Columbia Basin Project building canals and drainage systems. He enjoyed the surveying side of his work most he once said.

Ernie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities and as a temple worker in the Seattle temple.

He is preceded in death by one grandson and one greatgranddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ida; five children, Lorraine (Bryce) Homer of Pleasant Grove, UT., Kathy (Kevin) Blackburn of Carlsbad, CA., Paul of Pasco, WA., Douglas (Natalie) of Morenci, AZ., Keith (Donna) of Kelso, WA., 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court St., Pasco.
