Smithfield – Lois Jane Pope Southerland, age 89, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Born April 19, 1927 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Archie Raymond and Callie Jones Pope. She was preceded in death by her husband, Needham Ransom Southerland, Jr.; brothers, A.R. Pope, Jr. and Pete Pope; and sisters, Elgie Pope and Hilda Norris. Lois was a longtime member of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks. She was an employee at Roses in Smithfield for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016 in Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church with Rev. Bob Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday just prior to the service and at all other times at the home of Clifton and Pam Ryan.
Surviving are her son, Randy Southerland and significant other Pattie Johnson of Raleigh; daughters, Kaye Myhrum and husband P.H. Myhrum, Jr. of Cary, and Pam Ryan and husband Clifton of Wilson’s Mills; brothers, Harold Pope, Jack Pope, Charles Pope, and Jerry Pope; sisters, Jewel Johnson and Ann Allen; grandchildren, Liz Barclay, Jeff Myhrum, Hilary May, April Vinson, and Dr. Joshua Ryan; and great grandchildren, Zoë Barclay, Anja Barclay, Cooper May, Oliver May, Andrew Vinson, Abbigail Vinson, and one on the way, Ayden Vinson.
