Larry T. “Whitey” Williams, age 74, died December 1, 2016 at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids.

Larry T. “Whitey” Williams was born January 3, 1942 in Monroe County Iowa to Gilbert and Ruby Williams Boots. He lived in Blakesburg, Iowa until the family moved to Marion when he was 14.

At age 15 Larry began work at CeMar Acres Amusement Park until it closed. He also worked at the pool hall in Marion. Larry worked at Peterson Furniture in Marion and retired from Pella Roller Screen Windows and Doors in Pella where he worked in the wood shop and administration. He ran the café at the sale barn when he lived in Bonaparte, Iowa.

After moving to Monticello he worked part-time at the car wash until he fell at work, was hospitalized and was rehabilitating at Manor Care when he died unexpectedly.

Larry had been a member of the Masons, Eagle’s and the Moose Lodge.

Larry wanted to be in the military but was unable to qualify medically. He helped Veterans and anyone in need. Larry loved to dance, drive his Lincoln, share quarters with children, he was a nuemethist , and a pool shark. He loved visiting casinos and playing scratch cards and he was nicknamed Lucky for obvious reasons. He loved to play Santa for friends and family and thought he would live to 104. Larry never met a stranger and held the motto, “Giving is receiving” close to his heart.

Survivors include 6 siblings, Dennis (Julia) Williams of Shellsburg, Darlene (Bud) Langhoff and Shirley (Mark) Snell of Marion, Gary (Jann) Williams, Hot Springs, AR, Randy (Deb) Boots, Saginaw, Tx, Jim Williams, Toledo, and a special niece, Yvetter Perry, Monticello. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Norman Boots and Gilbert and Dorothy Williams.

Funeral service will be 1:30 Monday afternoon, December 5, 2016 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello where Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
