Maria Bishop
Maria Feiger Bishop, 83, died on December 1, 2008, at the Brown County Health and Living Community.

She was born on July 26, 1925, to Josef Feiger and Philomena Ebner of Augsburg, Germany.

During World War II, she was drafted into the German army to train as a nurse. She was 16. She spent the final years of the war tending wounded soldiers.

In post-war Germany, met and married Mervin Dale Bishop, an American soldier, and later immigrated to America where she became a U.S. citizen.

She worked at R.R. Donnelly in Crawfordsville, and later moved to Bloomington, where she worked at the Book Nook bookstore in which Hoagy Carmichael composed "Stardust." Maria was a singer, artist and sculptor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Philomena; brother, Franzi Feiger; youngest sister, Hannelore Krushe; and former husband, Mervin Dale Bishop.

She is survived by her children: daughter Sharon Cottrell and husband Boyd of Peoria, Arizona, daughter Deborah Lawson and husband Gary of Bloomington; granddaughter Amber Weaver and husband Mark of Greenwood, and their three children, Paige, Gabrielle, and Reilly Weaver; step-grandchildren Jessica Lawson of Iowa City, Iowa, and Benjamin Lawson of Bloomington.

She is also survived by her sister, Mini Wirkner and her husband Ernst of Augsburg, Germany; cousins, Luitgard and Susie Pruy, Irene Model and Irene's son, Markus Model and his wife Tina, all of Augsburg; as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews, most of who reside in Germany.

Her family conducted a private ceremony.
