Jean Hanks Barnett, 89, of Russellville, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at her home. The daughter of William Herbert and Lola Claire Hibbs Hanks, she
was born November 7, 1927 in Russellville.

She was a member of the Russellville High School class of 1946. Starting as a teller with the Bank of Russellville, later First National Bank, she was promoted to Vice President and Senior Teller. Following her retirement in 1989 she was an active member of the bank’s V.I.P. Club.

Jean began dancing at the age of 5 and went on to study piano, voice and expression.

She was a member of the Arkansas Women's Bankers Association, a member and past president of the Russellville Jaycettes, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 505, a charter member of the River Valley Squares, Russellville Band Boosters Club, and a lifetime member of the Riggs Hamilton Post Auxiliary of the American Legion. She was an avid fan of the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns and the Russellville High School Cyclones. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the P.K. Merrill Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hays West Barnett her parents, a brother, William Kent.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Barnett, Russellville; son, Robert Barnett (Janice), Russellville; four grandchildren, Holly Mays (Doug), Satellite Beach, FL,
Amy Franz (MSG John Franz), Fort Benning, Georgia, Jess Barnett, Colby Barnett, both
Of Russellville, great granddaughter, Lana LaBatt, Satellite Beach, FL; first cousin, Julia Ann Bowden Edwards, Dover; and other cousins and relatives.

Burial will be private at The Old Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Jess and Colby Barnett, Doug Mays, John Franze, Lana LaBatt and Dennis Edwards. Visitation will be from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Tech Women's Athletics for Basketball and Golf, and Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home, 220 John Babish Lane, Russellville, Arkansas 72801.
