Mary Ann (nee Henderson) DeFazio, 82, of Brick, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
Born in New Brunswick, she lived in Edison until moving to Brick upon her marriage to Louis DeFazio. She was a contract administrator for military sales at Gulton Industries, Inc. in Metuchen until retiring in 1978. She also worked as a part time sales manager at Bamberger's, now known as Macy's in Menlo Park. She also held a real estate license. Mary graduated from the former St. Peter's High School, New Brunswick, and attended Middlesex County College. She also did volunteer work at the Brick VA Clinic and Ocean Medical Center. She was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the morning prayer group. She was also a member of the VFW Post 8867 Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hartwell W. and Margaret Burke Henderson; her husband of 28 years, Louis G. DeFazio, in 2007; and her brother, Alfred J. Henderson, in 2006. Mary is survived by her dear son, Francis P. Kelly, Brick; her step children, Arthur L. DeFazio, Manchester; Helen A. Fleming, Toms River; and Mary E. Schmitt, Oceanport. She is also survived by 5 step-grandchildren, Ashley DeFazio, Thomas Cody Schmitt, Morgan E. Schmitt, Kelly Ann Fleming and William Louis Fleming.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at the Church of the Visitation in Brick. Interment will follow at the NJ Veteran's Cemetery in Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the (www.cancer.org).
