Mrs. Simmons was born in Wirtz, Virginia on April 11, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Allen and Cora Peters Altice.
On April 18, 1946, she married John Elvert Simmons, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Fred Altice and Jack A. Altice; and sister, Peggy Lawrence.
Reva was a homemaker, member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, and volunteered with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Mendlen and husband, Rick of Springfield, VA.; five grandchildren, Regal Leftwich and wife, Sloan Carrol, Allene Reiger and husband, Ted, Cori Guzman and husband, Marcello, Cristal Balis and wife, Jill, and David Mendlen and wife, Mary; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, with the Reverends Bob Humphrey and Brett Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., on Saturday prior to the service.
