HYRUM, Utah -- Claron Wray Allen, 79, of Hyrum, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, Logan Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born April 6, 1922, in Hyrum, the oldest son of Austin David and Vesta Rose Allen.

He was a life-long resident of Hyrum and graduated from South Cache High School.

He married Nora Ward on Sept. 23, 1942, in the Logan LDS Temple. They shared more than 54 years of married life together until she passed away in May of 1997. He then married Lelia N. Albretsen on July 10, 1998, in the Logan Temple.

Claron served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He also was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in the Hyrum 8th Ward bishopric, as a financial clerk and home teacher.

At an early age, he learned the value of hard work. He developed many skills and was a master of inventing solutions to many types of mechanical problems. Following his military service, he became a homestead farmer in Hansel Valley, west of Tremonton. Claron drove 18-wheeler trucks for E.A. Miller and Sons in Hyrum for many years. He was the first to haul E.A. Miller beef to the West Coast. He also was an assistant manager of Millers trucking operations. He and Nora were custodians for the LDS Church in Nibley for seven years prior to their retirement in 1987.

Claron loved to travel and vacationed in all but four states. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending the winters in Yuma, Ariz.

Claron was a very patient, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. His family and all who knew him will greatly miss his wisdom and kindness.

He is survived by his wife, Lelia, Hyrum; three daughters and one son, Janice (J. Dennis) Leishman, Hyrum, JoAnn (J. Lyle) Tuddenham, Nibley, Judy (Lee) Hendrickson, Hyrum, and Jeffrey (Heidi) Allen, Charlottesville, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. His brothers and sisters include A. Douglas Allen, Hyrum, Drue Larsen, Logan, Gloy Henich, Bountiful, Robert G. Allen, Logan, and Merle Dunkley, Layton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nora; one son, Jay Claron; a son-in-law, Craig Anderson, and a sister, Gwynne Nielsen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hyrum Stake Center, 600 S. 200 East, with Bishop Scot Allgood conducting.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
