April 24, 1928 - November 24, 2016


On November 24, 2016, Lucille Shipman peacefully went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Dexter, Missouri. She was born Lucille Wilma Veach in Burlington, Kansas to Henry and Ada Pearl (Anderson) Veach on April 24, 1928. Lucille was united on April 10, 1944 with the love of her life, Omas J. Shipman, who departed this life on July 5, 1996. Together they raised four sons and three daughters, who loved and honored their parents. The family was members of Powe Baptist Church and Lucille later joined with Northside Baptist Church in Bernie, MO.

At the time of her passing, Lucille was the dearly loved Mother to seven children, and Grandmother to twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for the love she showed to everyone who had the pleasure to know her.

Lucille is survived by four sons, Don Shipman and Kathie Cox of Peace Valley, Mo., Steve (Linda) Shipman of Blue Springs, MO, O.J. (Teresa) Shipman Jr. of Blue Springs, MO. And Ronnie (Vickie) Shipman of Jackson, MO.; by three daughters, Joyce (Art) Connor of Waynesville, MO., Carol Beam of Dexter, MO. and Wilma (Richard) Wright of Dexter, MO.; by twelve grandchildren, Cindy (Todd) Thomas of Kennett, MO, Carrie (John) Byers of Kennett, MO, Christi (Shannon) Todd of Poplar Bluff, MO., Scott Shipman of Philadelphia, PA., Stephanie (Darryl) Answer of Kansas City, MO., Sarah Beth (Mark) Parretta of Blue Springs, MO., Travis Shipman and Kalee Defoe of Blue Springs, MO., Holly (Bud) Shipman of Dexter, Karlee Wright of Dexter, MO, Parker (Devon) Shipman of Lenexa, Kansas, Brandon (Lish) Shipman of Phoenix, Arizona, Tiffanie (Nick) Grassi of Cape Girardeau, MO.; by sixteen great-grandchildren, Conner and Camille Thomas, Colin, Chas and Caroline Byers, Christian and Carson Todd, Kaelynn and Anthony Parretta, Raegan and Anslee Shipman, Harper Grassi, Jaidyn and Kian Answer, Eliza Shipman and Lily Shipman.

Besides her husband parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Floyd Baker, Carl Veach, Clarence Veach, Arthur Veach and Wayne Veach: by four sisters, Lillie Craig, Irene Baker, Mildred (Veach) Henry and Frances (Veach) Wingo: by one son-in-law, Gerald W. Beam, who passed away on January 9, 2008.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, MO.

Celebration of Lucille Shipman’s Life will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie, Mo. with Rev. O. H. Brooks officiating.

She will be laid to rest with her husband, mother and father, and other members of the family in Peace Valley, MO. at the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Grandson, Darryl Answer.
