Obituary
Alice May Dowd, daughter of the late William V. and Clarissa Dowd, was born on the Dowd homestead, three miles west of Dayton, on December 22, 1867, and passed away at her home northwest of town, December 16, 1930, at the age of 62 years, 11 months, 24 days. Here she was reared to young womanhood, attended the Dayton public schools, and spent her life in this community, where she was born. For several years, she was a teacher in the rural schools of this township. In 1886, she was united in marriage to Eric Bloom. To their union, four children were born: W. Van Bloom, living west of town; Maude C., who preceded her in death September 1st of this year; Dorothy I. and Violet B. at home. Mrs. Bloom also leaves to mourn her passing, a brother, William W. Dowd, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Putzke, both of whom live on the old Dowd homestead west of Dayton; and other relatives and many lifelong friends. Mrs. Bloom was a splendid mother, a good neighbor, always an interested worker in the organizations of the community, an active help in the Ladies Aid Society of the M.E. Church. She took an active interest in the education of her children, and in the success of their activities. A host of friends will miss her kindly interest and encouragement. Her funeral was held from her late home northwest of town, Rev. Karl W.G. Hiller of the M.E. Church in charge, and her remains were interred in Dayton cemetery.
