Carmela Jean (Armenise) Dornburg, life-long resident of Kankakee, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2016 following a short illness.

She was born August 19, 1932 to Carlo and Dora Armenise in Kankakee, IL.

She married John C. “ Jack” Dornburg on December 9, 1951. Along with her most devoted and loving husband of almost 65 years, Carmela leaves behind three daughters: Jacqueline (Jerry) Robinson of Kankakee, Jodie (Bernie) Carey, of Grand Rapids, MN, and Julie (Jon) Bartelt of Geneva, IL. Carmela was the proud grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 5. She also leaves behind a brother, Joe (Carol) Armenise, of Kankakee, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Carmela is preceded in death by her brother, Sebastian “Sam” Armenise.

Carmela, along with her husband, Jack, was a long-time owner and operator of Carlo’s Restaurant in Kankakee, a family business started by her father, Carlo. Following her retirement, she was a realtor in Kankakee County, and worked many years at the Jewelry Service Center in Kankakee.

Among the things Carmela loved best were dancing and being with family and friends. She was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge. She was an amazing cook and the consummate hostess. She will be missed by all who knew her kind heart and generosity. Contributer's note: A classy lady!
